Review SOTHEBYS Offer Catalog London February Impressionist And Modern Art

"Nature Morte aux Chaises" by Paul C zanne

Catalog Number: L13004

Sale: Impressionist Art Evening Sale

Location: Sotheby's London, 2013

"Nature Morte aux Chaises" is an exquisite still life painting by the renowned Post-Impressionist artist, Paul C zanne. Created in the late 1890s, this masterpiece showcases the artist's innovative approach to composition and his unique ability to transform everyday objects into timeless works of art.

Measuring approximately 55.9 x 65.4 cm (22 x 25 3/4 in), this oil on canvas painting depicts a table laden with various fruits, a pitcher, a cup, and a decanter. The composition is framed by two wooden chairs, one of which is partially obscured by the table, creating a sense of depth and dimensionality.

C zanne's mastery of color and form is evident in the rich, bold hues and the meticulously rendered textures of the fruit and tabletop. The artist's signature use of cubist elements is apparent in the way he breaks down the forms of the objects into geometric shapes, creating a sense of order and harmony within the chaotic abundance of the still life.

The painting's surface is covered in thick, impasto brushstrokes, adding to the tactile quality of the artwork and emphasizing the materiality of the objects depicted. The rough, textured canvas is visible through some areas of the painting, adding to the sense of raw energy and vitality that characterizes C zanne's late works.

"Nature Morte aux Chaises" is a rare and valuable example of Paul C zanne's groundbreaking contributions to the art world. Its presence in the Sotheby's London Impressionist Art Evening Sale in 2013 presented a unique opportunity for collectors and art enthusiasts to acquire this exceptional work and add it to their collections.
